Regional law firm Howes Percival has been commended for its work to help tackle youth unemployment in Norwich

Howes Percival has received a bronze award from the Norwich for Jobs scheme, which is spearheaded by Norwich North MP Chloe Smith and the city’s Jobcentre Plus

The voluntary project – which began its third phase in September – aims to reduce unemployment among 18 to 24-year-olds, with businesses offering apprenticeships, work tasters and CV and interview support.

Over the past year Howes Percival has supported the initiative by running mock interviews, giving training on writing CVs and offering advice and support at the Norwich for Jobs club.

Norfolk County Council awarded ‘gold’ for employment support

Norfolk County Council has been awarded ‘gold’ for its outstanding support of the ‘Norwich for Jobs’ programme.

Norwich for Jobs is a voluntary project that aims to reduce the number of young people registered as unemployed within the Norwich area by assisting them to find appropriate work through CV and interview advice, tours of workplaces, work tasters, work experience and apprenticeships.

Talks highlight value of apprenticeships to EDP Top 100 firm

The value of apprenticeships formed the theme of a roundtable discussion between officials from Norse Group and Norwich North MP Chloe Smith.

The session took place during a visit of the EDP Top 100 firm which is aiming to employ more than 100 apprentices on the company scheme during this year.

Norse commits more than £880,000 a year to apprenticeships across its three operating companies, Norse Commercial Services, NPS and Norsecare, a figure match-funded by Norfolk County council.

Prince’s Trust report says more young people in East Anglia want to run their own business

The East of England could be on the brink of a “youth business boom” as the economic climate drives more young people to consider becoming their own boss, a new report says.

 

The survey by the The Prince’s Trust found 36pc of the region’s 16 to 30-year-olds thought they would be self-employed in the future – higher than the national average of 30pc.

Nationally, despite just 5pc of young people currently being self-employed, more than a quarter (27pc) of those surveyed claimed they were “increasingly” thinking of setting up in business.
