Matthew who has Aspergers, received various support from his Work Coach. He was referred to the Norwich for Jobs Monday Support Club to get additional one-to-one support and help with his communication skills, social engagement and confidence.
Matthew participated in various activities including a MIND Mental Health workshop and one-to-one support, the Community Garden project (which Norwich for Jobs set up with Norwich City Council support).
He also helped with our Jobs fair, attended various sessions at the Monday Club, and joined in various activities and taster sessions with employers.
It was at this stage, and through his one-to-one support, that Matthew expressed a desire to explore retail work. Norwich for Jobs referred him to the Princes’ Trust Get Into Retail programme, where he enjoyed work experience, training and a guaranteed interview with an employer – in this case Marks & Spencer, who were so impressed they offered him a job.
